The Lancia Delta Integrale holds a record that will almost certainly never be broken: six consecutive World Rally Championship manufacturers' titles, from 1987 to 1992. In an era when rally cars were derived directly from road-going models, the Integrale was the road car that happened to be world champion. It drove to work on Monday and won in the forests of Finland on Saturday. That dual identity - competition weapon and usable road car - is what makes the Integrale one of the most compelling collector cars in Europe.
The story begins with the Lancia Delta HF Turbo, launched in 1983. By 1986, Lancia introduced four-wheel drive, and the HF 4WD was born. The 8-valve Integrale arrived in 1987, the 16-valve in 1989, and the definitive Evoluzione models (Evo I and Evo II) in 1991 and 1993. Total Integrale production across all variants reached approximately 44,296 units - a modest figure that underpins today's strong values.
The 8v (1987โ1989) is the purist's car. Lighter than its successors, with a simpler turbo system and arguably the most communicative steering feel in the range. Around 10,000 were produced. The 16v (1989โ1991) added a more powerful cylinder head and wider wheel arches. It's the version most people picture when they think "Integrale." The Evoluzione I (1991โ1992) widened the body further, added adjustable dampers, and pushed power to 210 PS. The Evoluzione II (1993โ1994) is the ultimate specification: 215 PS, Recaro seats, a revised dashboard, and the distinctive rooftop spoiler. Evo II models now regularly exceed โฌ100,000 at auction, with Dealers Special and Martini 6 editions commanding further premiums.
The Integrale's Achilles heel is structural corrosion, and there is no diplomatic way to say it: every Integrale rusts. Inner front wings,
8v and 16v models range from โฌ40,000โ70,000 depending on condition and history. Evoluzione I models command higher prices. The Evoluzione II has crossed the โฌ100,000 threshold at auction, with Dealers Special and Martini 6 editions commanding further premiums.
