A Novice Trial is HERO-ERA's entry point to classic regularity rallying, and the 2027 edition runs from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 February. HERO-ERA lists the location only as England, so the venue is still to be announced.
The format is built for learning. Friday is a seminar covering the essentials. Saturday combines theory with practical exercises on the road, and the 2026 training day covered about 60 miles with one test and three regularities. Sunday is the real thing: a mini rally, which in 2026 ran about 90 miles with four tests and four regularities, followed by awards and a buffet lunch.
The 2026 edition was based at Hellidon Lakes Hotel near Daventry. An earlier running started from HERO-ERA's home at Bicester Heritage and drew 41 crews.
Results classes have been split by registration decade, from pre-1960s cars to the 1980s, so a modest classic is perfectly at home. HERO-ERA's regulations have required drivers to hold a full UK or EU licence for at least six months.
An earlier edition saw 41 crews explore the Oxfordshire countryside from HERO-ERA's Bicester Heritage base.
