Each year on the Saturday before the third Sunday of Advent, the support association of the Feuerwehrmuseum Wernigerode sends its historic fire engines, joined by guest vehicles, on an illuminated drive through the town centre. In 2026 the Lichterfahrt takes place on 12 December.
The Lichterfest at the museum starts at 16:00 with mulled wine, Schmorwurst and other food, plus chips and waffles for children. The parade leaves Heltauer Platz at 18:00 and afterwards some vehicles can be seen at the museum.
Any vehicle is welcome to join the parade after registering by email. Participants meet at 17:00 at Unter den Zindeln. Entry is free. The museum's prize exhibit is an Opel Blitz LF15 fire engine of 1938/39, in service until 1975.
The Lichterfahrt has run since 2018. One past edition saw around 30 decorated vehicles, including clubs such as the Ostberliner Löschzug and IFA IG Langenstein.
