National Drive It Day falls on Sunday 25 April 2027, its 22nd year. The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs created it in 2005 to celebrate the One Thousand Mile Trial, an 11-day round-Britain test that began on 23 April 1900 to prove the new motor car was viable.
The format is simple. The Federation sets the date and publicises it nationally, and member clubs and venues organise their own drive-outs, gatherings and visits to beauty spots and historic sites. That means the day looks different in every region. Examples range from the Concours House open day in Wiltshire to a Scottish Borders tour.
The day also raises money for the NSPCC's Childline under the banner 'Yesterday's Vehicles Supporting Today's Children'. Owners can buy fundraising rally plates, and motorcyclists have their own Ride It Day plates.
Future dates are already set, with 2028's Drive It Day on Sunday 23 April. Check the Drive It Day events listing to find a run near you.
