Where Passion Meets Provenance
Ferrari is the marque that needs no explanation and permits no indifference. Founded by Enzo Ferrari in Maranello in 1947 with the singular purpose of funding his Scuderia racing team, every road car that has left the factory since carries the weight of that competition heritage. The prancing horse is the most recognised automotive emblem on earth, and the values of its classic models reflect that singular status.
For collectors, Ferrari represents the highest peaks of the classic car market - and increasingly, some of its most rewarding entry points. The 308 GTB and GTS (1975โ1985) have become the gateway Ferraris: genuinely beautiful Pininfarina-designed mid-engine cars with the mechanical character of Maranello at their core. Fibreglass-bodied early GTBs are particularly coveted. The Testarossa (1984โ1996), once dismissed as a poster-car clichรฉ, has undergone a complete cultural and financial reappraisal - its side strakes and flat-12 engine note now command prices that would have seemed absurd a decade ago.
The market hierarchy
Ferrari's classic car market operates in clearly defined tiers. At the pinnacle: the 250 GT series - SWB Berlinetta, GTO, Lusso - where seven- and eight-figure prices are standard. The mid-market - Daytona, 275 GTB, Dino 246 - ranges from โฌ250,000 to over โฌ2 million. The accessible tier - 308, 328, Mondial, 400/412 - starts from around โฌ50,000 for a well-sorted example. Even within the accessible tier, the spread is dramatic: a carburettor 308 GTB in Rosso Corsa with documented history can fetch three times what a tired Mondial QV might bring.
Buying Ferrari in Europe
Italy is not just the origin country - it is the cultural context in which these cars make the most sense. Italian-delivery cars with Classiche certification (Ferrari's own authentication programme) command a premium globally. The UK's auction houses - Bonhams, RM Sotheby's London -
