The Cotswold Novice Trial gives newcomers to Vintage Sports-Car Club trialling a day of their own. The 2026 running is on Sunday 25 October, based at Prescott Speed Hill Climb, straight after Saturday's main Cotswold Trial.
The event began in 2023. The Cotswold Trial had long included a novice class, and as it grew more popular the VSCC turned that class into a separate trial. Motorsport UK reported at the time that it is open to competitors with five or fewer previous VSCC trials. Anyone who qualifies enters the Sunday event rather than the main trial.
In 2023 novices tackled up to eight sections in and around Prescott, some of them shared with Saturday's course. That means newcomers get a taste of genuine Cotswold mud without the full length of the senior event.
For spectators it is a relaxed way to see trialling at close quarters. In 2023 the hills opened at 9:00, the car park from 8:30 and the clubhouse served food. The 2026 timings should be checked with the club before travelling.
